Context
Kwarara Tumaini Media Education Center (Hee-MEC) located in Zanzibar was built through a collaboration between Seoul Broadcasting Service (SBS) and Good Neighbors International as a part of SBS’s 희망학교 (Hope Schools) Project.
The center is envisioned as a facility for the purposes of media content production across several media platforms.
What We Did
The ‘Media Empowerment Workshop’ was designed to impart skills necessary to produce content across two key media platforms, television and radio. During the course of the workshop, 18 participants of the media center were trained in various aspects of content production. They were familiarised with basics of pre-production, production, post-production, and broadcasting.
Throughout the training, they were assigned to produce educational and informative programs, which were designed for them to be more familiar with the process of the production.
Result
The conclusion of the project was marked by successful productions by the workshop participants. Not only were the participants able to work in teams to produce content, they were also able to operate the equipment used to record and broadcast programs. Through the course of project, the participants came to understand their individual contributions in the context of the task at hand as well as the importance of working with others in the production team. By the end of the workshop, a total of 4 programs were produced in the span of two weeks for TV and radio.
